  1. The 150th anniversary is the perfect time to clear up the mystery of who donated the land on which Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows was constructed.

Two key sources disagree on who made the donation. Karl Mathias Klein writes in his 1931 “The History of Millerville” that Katharina Miller, the widowed mother of founder John A. Miller, “gave 40 acres of her farm to found the Maria 7-Schmerzen Kirche.”

But in her 1981 history, “A History of Millerville, Minnesota,” Helen Joos Cichy reports, “The mother of John A. Miller had donated twenty acres as church property. On this parcel the new church was constructed. The mother of Johan Lorsung likewise donated twenty acres east of the church. This was intended to assist in the support of the church.”

Katharina Miller was my great-great grandmother, and Johan Lorsung was a close friend of my great-grandfather, John A. Miller, the pioneer who named the down in honor of Katharina.

So I’d like to know: who is the benefactor of Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows?

  2. Hi Dan! My mother's family, Nicholas & Anna (Boesen) Hockert settled on the Eastern shores of Lake Moses in Millerville MN, having immigrated from Schwemlingen Germany in 1866. I would like to find out when St Mary's Catholic School was built, and when it was no longer being used. Thank you for any help you can give me! Judy Best
